Saturday Night!

Is for movie watchin' this week. We just finished shooter with Marky Mark and are getting ready for Casino Royale (somehow we both missed it last year). I am in a bang bang shoot em up movie kind of mood so these seem to fit the bill. As for the rest of the weekend - how about some bill paying and knitting - sounds good to me too. Happy almost August people - where does the summer go?!?!

You can dance if you want to

The only reason Jackie, Jason and I went to dance last night is because we all guilted each other into it. That's good though - I hadn't seen the group in a while and well, I kind of missed it. And it seems that I have been missing a bunch of other stuff too. Our class is going to merge with the "boring" Tuesday night class that doesn't switch partners. Luckily we are going to move them to our time slot, later in the evening. In my dreams, this will be well past their bedtime and they won't sign up. If they do though, I guess that'll mean less dance space. We are picking up the Bolero and Viennese Waltz. Two more that I can forget if I don't go for weeks on end.

2 Blankets Down.... 2 to go

I finished the second baby blanket! They are both the same pattern (oversized washcloth worked on the diagonal) but the colors are definitely different! Luckily for this one I didn't run out of yarn with 30 some odd rows left.

Today is my day off (whooo hooo!) and tomorrow I work at night. I feel like this week I have been social (gasp!) and am regaining my life back. For example, if there is dance class tonight, I'll probably go. Kel and I had dinner at the restaurant on Monday to check out the new menu, which is crazy good, then we stopped by Meredith's to see her new house. She mentioned that the girls were going to see a movie on Tuesday night at the $1.50 theater - so I tagged along to see Blades of Glory last night after working during the day. Yesterday was a good day as the pastry chef went home early and I got to finish out kitchen time on my own. I worked on bread (baguette and honey cornmeal), made creme brulee, souffles, pastry cream, measured out flour for today's bread, baked off chess pie tartlets, and did a bunch of little stuff. Talk about your stupid comedy - this one qualifies. I particularly loved the costuming:

I'll be having lunch with Leigh today - a promise made about a year and a half ago to actually see each other after working at Martin Marietta. She has the best scoop and keeps up with Everybody. Tomorrow it will be lunch with some of the current (for now) Martin folks to see what is up in their world. For the weekend, we'll see how that goes - but Thursday night will be the only night of work this week.

Crazy Schedule Again!

I'm back to having a crazy schedule. There was a flicker of hope that faded last night. A girl came in to trail and then was offered the dessert plating job, she came in for training, felt that she wasn't going to do well with it and left on her own volition.
The job isn't the easiest thing in the world to pick up, just like anything else, it takes time to learn the intricacies but that is why you train and don't just get thrown into it.
I just don't understand why people can't hack it. Part of me wonders what other kitchens are like if people seem to do okay there, but aren't doing well here.
Who knows.

I finished it!

Went to Jackie's on Sunday to knit. I would have finished the baby blanket I started weeks ago if I hadn't run out of yarn! I started the next blanket to make up for not being able to finish the first one.
So on Monday night, I finally finished the baby blanket I started weeks ago - I think it was in May after I mailed in the squares for Hokie Healing. Whooo Hoooo! The first one is in this color:
The next one is in this color: - the swatch doesn't do it justice - it is pretty blues and golds. And the one after that might be this color (I don't know if it will be a boy or a girl):But this will work well for a girl I think -

Kel and I went to see Ratatouille, Pixar's latest. The story line was cute, but the animation was the reason to go. There was a scene where Remy breaks into a loaf of bread - it looked so much like a crusty baguette it was amazing. And the hair on the characters. So flowy and lush - You just have to see it. My favorite character, the food critic, Ego:

My grandmothers birthday was yesterday and I sent her a big basket of goodness from Edible Arrangements. Hopefully it looked like this without having a weird cutout shadow:
I spoke with G-ma today too - she spent her birthday with my Cousin Marshall and his wife and Aunt and Uncle. The youngest cousin is engaged, and that is about all of the news from Easton.
Happy Thursday that feels like a Monday!
